  1. The monarchy is a red herring. There are a handful of people who get some legal exemptions which are bad but are, on the whole, insignificant. The royals have no real power, just theoretical power and that’s where your parliamentary sovereignty argument comes from (though that’s not what that means but never mind) The real problem is FPTP and Clive mentioned that briefly but it is the real thing that is allowing a minority to stay in power and it is the thing that most Labour Party supporters want to change but the Labour Party leadership refuses to change in very heavy handed ways. If you are a real Labour supporter you should not be voting exclusively Labour. Vote tactically and then, when a coalition gets into power, rally for electoral reform

  2.  @HedgeWitch-st3yy  honestly, at this point the royalty and lords are the closest thing we have to checks and balances. If we had a functional elected commons then that might be a bad thing but we don’t do getting rid of that before sorting out the electoral reform means we’re left with a systemically rigged system built to give power to the worst people. At least as it stands the lords and royalty have a noblesse oblige attitude to their job (or that possibility exists anyway) whereas the commons is just craven
