Imagine a Labour Party that is only in power for one in four elections thinking that we shouldn’t change the electoral system. Talk about voting for christmas

Labour has one job, to back the unions. If you’re celebrating Labour moving to the centre then you are celebrating a fully broken political system that cares not at all about securing mandates on policies and only on securing power for power’s sake

Lammy complaining that Labour has barely ever been in power during his lifetime (I would say they’ve never been in power during his adult life) and then deciding that the solution is to change the party to have Tory policies instead of the solution being to fix the electoral system is as damning as it gets

Joking about a politics that doesn’t change its mind from the party that refuses to try anything that remotely rocks the boat, from the party that kicks out MPs for siding with Palestine or for siding with unions, from the party that quashes a conference motion approved by a majority of the membership to pursue electoral reform. Sure, new Labour are all about changing their mind. They’re gonna change their minds so hard that they’ll stop the boats, crack down on scroungers and tighten the purse strings to get the economy under control. You know, so we can have that strong and stable government

“We tried that more times than not and it’s failed” We were this close to trying that back in the 90s. We had a Labour leader who had the union bosses under control in a way that benefitted everybody, we had a Tory party that were in ruins and guaranteed to lose the next election. Then John Smith died. Then Tony Blair took over and suddenly we had a Thatcherite running the Labour government and worst sort of people chalked it up to a win for electability when it was actually a win for destroying a good man’s legacy while the corpse was still fresh. We still need to vote Labour where we need to vote Labour but anywhere that you can vote for somebody else without letting the tories in, do that. Then, when Labour win, we march on the capital and demand electoral reform because this is disgusting

“Highest taxes in 70 years” Imagine celebrating that Labour would have lower taxes than Thatcher
