Vetoon Phoome told his family that he was not tortured or beaten, and that "the food was good and he was well cared for." He also said that he seemed to be arranged to live in a house instead of a tunnel. 33-year-old Vetoon Phoome communicated with his family via video call after his release. His sister Roongarun Wichanguen later told the media about his situation, describing him as having not lost weight and with a smile on his face.
