  2. I was looking at the Wikipedia page for the Mogami which mentions the Battle of Sundra Strait. The Magami sank some four Japanese transports and a minesweeper. One of the transports, the Ryujo Maru, was carrying Lt. Gen. Imamura, who had to jump overboard. He was later rescued by the crew of a small boat and taken ashore. He, unlike the Mogami, survived the war. I think I now see why the Japanese Navy and Army did not get on so well.
