  2. Interestingly the gun stabilizer on the US M-4 Sherman tank was also classified. Which meant tank crews were not allowed to know how to use them. This did not stop the cleverer tank crewmen to work it out. And those that did said they were happy with the stabilizer. This rest who never learnt how to use them just belittled the devise claiming it was not good.

  3. Funnily enough I was recently watching a video about USN torpedo bomber attack with mark 13 torpedoes on a number of Japanese merchant ships trapped in a lagoon. Not one torpedo exploded and some even missed their target. They could not even shoot fish in a barrel Fortunately other aircraft in the attack did destroy the ships. I have to wonder why, once their failings had been exposed, they Bureau of Ordnance still held any sway over the failings of the torpedo. More importantly why heads did not roll. One way or another their incompetence cost many lives. Not just the submarine crews but also the lives of those who would not have died had the torpedo worked and sunk the Japanese warships.
