  1. I thought Dwarven Bread was more of a weapon then a food. Plus if you are hungry it does encourage you to try other things before you eat it. Such as the corpse which has been rotting in the sun for several days and covered in flies.

They did tend to stick to sailing around the coast rather then crossing the Med because if there was a storm you had a better chance of either finding a sheltered harbour or, failing that, running your ships ashore and waiting for the storm to pass. As the Romans were new to being a naval power the did not understand about sticking to the coast and just thought they could sail across the Med like they would march their army across the land. Interestingly when Julius Caesar tried to invade Britain many of his ships were hit by the Autumn Equinox storms which often happen at that time of year. He managed to get enough ships together to get back to Gaul before trying again the following year. He landed at the same spot as the year before, got hit by the equinox storms yet again and then had to evacuate his troops yet again. For someone often fated as a great general he was a slow learner.

  3. I did read that a wife could legally have her husband declared dead if she had not seen or heard from him for three years and three months. Once that time period was up then she was free to remarry. It was something to do with how long Drake and his crew had been away before returning home. The French have won more wars then they lost.
