  1. I understand that in 2015 the Thai air force held an exercise with the Chinese air force with the Thai's flying the Gripen. Though the Thai's did come out on top, especially with beyond visual range combat, they did have problems withing visual range. So they may have decided that rather then upgrade to a newer Gripen they would take advantage of the F-35.
