  1. An interesting 'what if.' I seem to remember that the US Navy wanted the F-18 as cost saving exercise because the F-14 was so expensive. To sweeten the deal they added other capabilities which then pushed the price up to the point where it cost more that the F-14. Makes the F-15N look like a better choice.
