  1. It is somewhat ironic that the US ended up buying Soviet technology, the Yakovlev Yak-141, so they could make the F-35 The US and UK should have gotten together on this. Hawker Siddeley and British Aerospace had put forward plans for a supersonic VSTOL and STOVL aircraft which could have been excellent for the job but the finance was not there. Whereas the two countries working together could have shared the cost.
