In the US, the purpose of gov't is to meet the needs of "We the people," as determined by "We the people" through elected representatives. Reagan typifies hostility to gov't as service to the needs of "We the people" in service to organized wealth ever hungry for tax cuts they don't need. The Trump tax cut for the wealthy created an enormous deficit in service to 1 per cent of the population. And how do Republicans propose reducing the deficit? But eliminating gov't meeting the needs of "We the people".

Trump may have MENTIONED infrastructure, but he never offered anything other than talk. Same with the health care replacement for "Obamacare" -- never even proposed. All talk.

@robertfetrow4612 Conservatism: the accumulation of wealth and power into as few hands as possible. Reagan's focus was on dismantling civil rights enforcement, and initiating sedition against gov't -- gov't being by definition rule of law. In contrast, the Founders were PRO-gov't. And they established a self-governing democracy of "We the people". Reagan's declared enemy was "We the people". He set the template for G. DUI Bushit, and Cheney/Bushit set the course for McCain/Palin, and Palin for Trump. "Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect." -- Frank Wilhoit.

@interstellarphred Yes: conrail was established with and funded by TAXPAYER MONIES as a public service. So Reagan's transportation secretary privatized, which resulted in higher fees for those who used it. The private sector charges more; it does not do it better. But that's the whole scam: private profit over all else.
