Good distro, bad devs

@d3stinYwOw No, I'm opposed to executable pseudocode in the kernel lowering the barrier to entry for incompetent fools.

First step is to scrub away all that rust that's starting to gunk up the kernel

But can you trust such "people" to develop a secure and privacy respecting distribution? I for one wouldn't trust the tails project or the qubes os project with anything privacy sensitive, which is literally the only purpose of their distros.

Ukui, fly, dde, lxde, trinity, xfce, cde

@d3stinYwOw Not at all, merely justified pragmatism. The lower the barrier to entry, the more script kiddies start contributing to the kernel. This results in more work for those who actually know what they are doing to audit contributions, thereby increasing the chance poorly written or deliberately malicious code finds its way into the kernel. Not to mention making it easier for anyone without any real knowledge of programming to try injecting malicious code. Do you really trust the kind of people who use rust to write good code? People like the asahi team? 😏

@d3stinYwOw There is definitely a time and a place for nim, zig, go, (I don't know ocaml, so can't comment), rust and python. But the linux kernel is not it.

What's a good linux distro in 2024? Bsd, openindiana 😂

I think, because of its immutability, atomic updates, centralized configuration and easy roll-backs, nixos makes a very good first distro for new users
