@PRINT Another way to deconstruct the weighed price argument is to think of the Center getting a volume discount, not to conclude as states subsidizing the center or anything like that. The weighted price is actually the per-jab pricing PnL looks like.... That would be the avg target price and that is why Adar Poonawala kept saying that he will make less, when he reduced the price for states...

Love PRINT, detest NDTV. former is sincere and genuine, latter is ..well.

@PRINT If States pay a higher price (=better margin for the vaccine maker) wouldn't the vaccine maker want to sell to States first (or second after pvt firms)? -- So why did the states did not get any vaccines , the answer is that there was not enough to go around after the pvt firms/hospitals were sold to first! The weighted avg price argument is really a bridge to nowhere. Bonus points for Catch-22 book reference but did this really deserve a full CTC...?

How? That was an entirely different thing... Mark to Market, remember?

@buny169 It is specious to say that State Govt is subsidizing. Both State (400/-) and Center (150/-) are getting subsidized by the Pvt firms (1200/-), the actual price being 475/- for Covaxin. It is difficult to understand why anyone should take an issue especially since center funded frontline workers and 45+ age group for the entire nation. What if center told the states, we will not get into the vaccinating business - you, states, vaccinate everyone. States would have paid INR 475 and so would have the Pvt firms.
