  1. This is a deep issue. Even in supportive environments, ignorant empathy is an issue - it is difficult for a non-professional who has not experienced altered states of mind to really understand. You can't just "snap out" of depression or a manic episode, for e.g.. This why access to therapy and trained professionals becomes a must, regardless of the nature of individual's environment.
