Everyone in Ukraine knows taking pictures is no-no. I had a friend flee Zaporizhia during the power plant crisis. She stayed in Lviv for a month. I asked for pictures (as one normally would if someone was going on vacation). She reminded me that it's not such a good idea because people will think she's a spotter, one of the pro-Russisns or spies that give targets for the Russian missile strikes in civilian areas. That guy fully knew what he was doing and ironically, his narcissism (which he derided women for) in thinking he could get away with something that everyone knows you can't do got him arrested as a spy or spotter. Then, he gets sick in jail and dies because his beloved Russians have bombed out the healthcare system. Then, another anti-American propagandist takes a bit of the story writes a fictional "based on true events" fabrication. (Note, Tucker Carlson and his ilk are "anti-American" because being "pro-Russisn" IS being anti-American, since Russia is against everything that the US stands for.)

@pilowmonster - you should learn about how satellites work or how much they can see from a given orbit, and then look at estimates of how many reconnaissance satellites Russia has and compare all that to the size of Ukraine. You might be surprised. hahaha

@pilowmonster - You're absolutely right that it's reprehensible the way Lira died. He died in prison because he got sick when Russia had destroyed the healthcare infrastructure and made medicine and medical treatment a priority for Ukranian combat troops. It's terrible that the country he was so fond of, Russia, ultimately caused his death by their invasion of Ukraine which disrupted his personal business model, opened the door for him to sell intel to Russia during war, and ultimately by Russia intentionally targeting hospital infrastructure and creating medical priority for combat troops instead of treasonous civilians. Lira was spying during a war. He absolutely "did something wrong". He took pictures sent them to Russia. Re-read the first sentence of my original comment.

@MiddleAgedGeek - I saw. We had similar ideas regarding his lack of understanding of the limits of satellites (and indeed, the limits of Russian intelligence gathering - remember they spent billions prior to the invasion to learn nothing real).

@Анна_ЮА - "What does Russia have to do with this anyway?" Uh, Russia sort of... A little bit...kind of INVADED UKRAINE! Had Russia not invaded Ukraine, Lira could still be selling his sex tours. He didn't start talking about Zalensky until after Russia invaded. So, EVEN IF you're correct and Ukraine intentionally murdered Lira in prison (Ukraine didn't, Lira died of untreated pneumonia see earlier comments on why he might not have received treatment), Russia is STILL at fault because Russia invading Ukraine and ruining Lira's sex tourism business is what got Lira started on the path of talking bad about Zalensky. Please. Just. Put the bag of paint chips down and try to think critically and for yourself instead of regurgitate whatever nonsense you were fed, like a baby bird with mama bird shoving it down your throat knowing you can't resist.

@AAWT - Right, thanks for clarifying. We weren't saying taking pictures will get you sent to jail. However, it will draw looks and suspicion from people who have seen the results of missiles and drones destroying apartment buildings, hospitals, schools, museums, etc and don't want to be the victim of such an attack. SOMEONE will end up reporting you to authorities who will investigate and, as you point out, if they find you sending those pictures to Russia, you go to jail for attempted murder, treason, etc.

@julqw2 - I have a friend living there who hasn't had any trouble with getting access to healthcare in Ukraine and she's a lot closer to one of the front lines than I'd prefer. Prior to 2022, she hadn't had any problems either, from about 2012 when I first heard anything about doctor visits for her or her child.

@pierce4026 - And because you're a foreigner you probably didn't notice the locals observing you. How many OTHER people did you see openly taking pictures? What I said comes from a Ukranian, living in Ukraine, "It's not a good idea to take pictures. People will think I'm a spotter."
