Speaking of, I have a friend living near Zaporizhia and she told me that she slept bad because of "booms again". She said there hadn't really been attacks like that for a while. Unfortunately, it's still "normal". Johnson and other politicians that are not backing supporting a friendly, democratic country trying to fight for their freedom while an aggressive neighbor terrorizes civilians really have a special place in hell...especially after that party demanded spending 2.27 TRILLION dollars trying to nation build in the Middle East where we weren't even wanted and didn't need to be after Al Qaeda and the Taliban were made impotent after a week.

Professor Gerdes Explains channel went over the Budapest Memorandum (it's not very long if you want to read it yourself). In the Budapest Memorandum, the US, UK, and Russia agreed to protect the territorial integrity of Ukraine in exchange for Ukraine giving up its Soviet era nuclear deterrent. The agreement provided no method or requirement of enforcing the provisions other than Ukraine could complain to the UN if nuclear weapons were used against Ukraine. Once President Clinton, who led the effort, left office there was no guarantee the US would assist Ukraine. It gets worse. All along, NATO was telling Ukraine that "someday" they'd be allowed to apply for NATO membership. At the same time, there were unofficial assurances, as appeasement, to Russia that NATO wouldn't accept Ukraine as a member. The bottom line is that the Ukraine war is the fault of the the US making false or worthless assurances of protection to Ukraine and Ukraine giving up its deterrent.

@robertfinch4572 - people aren't being paid a wage commensurate with the profits of the company they work for. That's why people in America have trouble making ends meet. Well, that and our habit of overspending as long as we can make the payments.

Remember. Being able to succeed isn't required for Russia to invade and begin trouble. Russia invaded Georgia twice. They failed the 1st and partially succeeded the 2nd. Russia invaded Ukraine twice. They partially succeeded the 1st and have been floundering the 2nd after initial success due to the surprise. That same "they aren't really stupid enough to do it" surprise could see Russia enter a Baltic country and then NATO must go fight to get them out. Being able to succeed isn't required for Russia to try. Remember, Putin was told Ukraine will fall within a week. If he wants to hear that Russia can invade NATO, that's what his advisors will tell him otherwise the Russian Minister of Morale, Юумп Адавиндо (Yuump Adavindo) might visit the people who don't tell Putin what he wants to hear.

@mikecunningham4735 - You make a good point. If NATO is going to help protect Europe by supplying aid to Ukraine, it makes a lot more sense to give Ukraine everything they need and then some.

It's America. We're going to spend money on the military anyway. It just makes sense to buy actually useful stuff to replace the old equipment we can send to Ukraine. If not, we'll spend the money on another Zumwalt or LCS debacle that's totally useless. Get new equipment, create American jobs, send old stuff to Ukraine so thru can defeat an enemy of the entire Democratic world. It's seriously a no brainer!

@lewisdoherty7621 - are you suggesting that Ukraine has a bunch of unaccounted for equipment at its national guard bases? If that's what your suggesting, it's doubtful. First, Ukraine is a poor country and was never a military threat to Russia, as Russia claimed. Ukraine's military would've already been transferring that equipment or munitions to the east where there was a need to defend against regular probing attacks from the DNR and LNR forces occupying the east of Ukraine. That stagnant battle line existed for 8 years prior to the invasion in 2022. Even if it was low intensity, there was shooting. Third, since the mobilization of Ukraine on a war footing, the only way stuff is sitting unused and unaccounted for in a national guard base is through corruption, which is a possibility. Remember, those units had troops. Those troops are going to want to take equipment and ammunition with them when they need to go fight. 4th, an accounting that you suggest probably took place when the various military units were organized into a national defense. Bean counters exist everywhere. If you were talking about US state national guard inventories, I don't see how that's relevant other than they do have lots of old equipment that Ukraine could benefit from and would probably like to replace it with new equipment if the old stuff could be sent to Ukraine. It's also extra ridiculous considering we spent 2.27 TRILLION DOLLARS in the Middle East trying to nation build (after not finding non existent WMD!) over 20 years. Something to keep in mind is that most Americans are in favor of support to Ukraine. Unfortunately, ONE person, House Speaker Mike Johnson, is able to SILENCE EVERY American by silencing their elected representatives by not allowing a vote to be called.

@David-gh6vp - Taliban and Al Qaeda were defeated as a threat to America in a week. We spent 1.26 TRILLION dollars over 20 years trying to "nation build". Then, we doubled down and invaded Iraq because of non-existent WMD and spent 1.01 TRILLION dollars there to end up with Iraq now being friends with Iran. Yet, when something is a GOOD BARGAIN and legitimate, we're closing our wallet? We're America. We LOVE spending money on the military. "aid to Ukraine" is sending old equipment and replacing it with new, but Republicans can't have it because MAGA is brainwashing or holding the Republican Party hostage under Trump's cult of personality. Trump isn't even an elected official and he's directing the actions of the politicians.

Russia failed the 1st time and was partially successful the 2nd. Russia invaded Ukraine twice and was partially successful in the 1st and has been floundering in the 2nd. Failure doesn't prevent Russia from causing the trouble by trying. If Russia turns its population and economy towards military, the way North Korea has done, they could absolutely still be potent. If Russia can succeed in Ukraine, that's tens of millions more people that will be added to the Russian war economy.
