  1. It was prisoners and other troublemakers, anarchists that Russia sent to Donetsk and Luhansk who were the original "separatists". Yup, the OG "separatists" in Ukraine were from outside of Ukraine and trucked in by Russia with the promise of an opportunity to become the next Ramzan Kadyrov. As an added bonus, the first president of the DPR wasn't Russian or Ukrainian. The irony is that Russia decided that the asymmetrical warfare of the 2014 Russian invasion of Ukraine, utilizing these foreign "separatists" supported by Russian special forces and helicopter gunships was too inefficient, thus the full scale regular military 2022 invasion. Arguably, the 2014 invasion was far more successful with far lower costs in every category.
