They LOOK like us (people of European descent) which makes us think they must be like us when in fact they are very different.

  4. Unfortunately, it's not America that's the problem. It's ONE American that's completely shut down American democracy. Donald Trump, not even an elected official, is the SINGLE person who is silencing EVERY American by ordering the Speaker of the House of Representatives to not ALLOW A VOTE by our elected Representatives. No, the Founders of our government didn't anticipate a single person, a cult of personality, would be able to overrun and wreck the democratic process.

  5.  @6789uiop  - I agree with you. Julia ioffe, a Russian expert, has said that it would be better if Russians were purple. It would be easier for us to realize they're totally different. As it is, Russians look like us (people of European descent), so we INCORRECTLY think that they're basically like us. However, there will be a few Russians that would feel guilty about what Russia is doing in Ukraine. So, collectively the Russian people agree to pretend they don't know the truth so nobody has to feel guilty about it. It's part of the concept of "Vranye", вранье, or "lies". It's the Russian social concept of I know you know that I'm lying but as long as we both pretend nobody's lying everything is OK.

  6. Jake, you're reading too much into the current administration. There's no ambiguity. The Biden administration is against Ukrainian attacks on Russian strategic targets. Lloyd Austin wasn't ambiguous. He straight up said Ukraine should attack "tactical and operational targets" (aka not attacking refineries) instead of Russian strategic targets. 21:19 Celeste Wallander, assistant Secretary of Defense, is implying that Russian oil refineries are "civilian infrastructure" and then clearly stating that Ukraine shouldn't attack civilian infrastructure. Biden does need to replace Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. Austin doesn't understand military strategy while criticizing Ukrainian attacks on Russian strategic targets. Biden does need to get tough on Russia. 22:02 Jake, neutrality is tacit support for Russia and not supporting Ukraine is acting against Ukrainian interests. You need to read the writing on the wall. You're being too optimistic in your appraisal of what SECDEF and Assistant SECDEF are saying.
