  1. yes, political system in western civilization helped them succeed. but, geography also played a part in allowing them to grow massively without any major 'cost' or repercussions. shape of europe is an advantage, you can't conquer it linearly. the west is/was not near the steppes, so no raids from hordes. face it, western europe's success includes geography.

  3. i think dynastic change was good in its own right specifically for 'china'. government should have been more centralized. song should have allied with an islamic kingdom/empire. qing was too centralized.

  4. i think Late Ming had potential. if it wasn't so corrupt and fighting two sides, things could have been better for the people. Late Ming did generate some notable people. Wu Youxing (1582-1652) was an expert in medicine, but was put to death by Qing. Song Yingxing (1587-1666) was a good scientist/encyclopedist, but retired after Ming fell (shaved his head when Qing came into power). Zhu Zhiyu (1600-1682) was the best Confucian scholar at the time, but plead to Japan for asylum when Qing replaced Ming, contributing to Japanese education/intellectualism. Xu Guangqi (1562-1633) was an astronomer, mathematician, and politician who converted to Christianity, working with Matteo Ricci introduced new technology and ideas to Ming, but died to illness, no one to really replace his ethusiasm after his death, as Qing was taking charge.

  7. the west had a good internal political system, i don't doubt that. but, the western european people didn't really get along with people outside of western europe or europe in general. the system was made for themselves, not anyone else. seems like it only changed during the 20th century. although other civilizations didn't have a great system like the west, their attitude towards outsiders were more accepting or forgiving. those 'other civilizations' definitely had potential
