russia didn't do anything to stop the baltics from joining, so the baltic countries are probably a side bonus. ukraine joining nato is a great concern to russia, and given the history of nato, it's understandable

finland making a wrong move since russia won't invade finland, and joining nato doesn't mean a free pass. as a nato member, the country must use monetary, land, and human capital to 'contribute'. good luck with that

@florianschneider8396 Yugoslavia/Serbia, Libya, and Subsaharan Africa. Russia would have been next
3
russia is already a great, regional power, just not a superpower
3
America taking advantage of countries' fear of Russia/USSR to gain influence in those countries
2
finland might as well spend more money to defend itself. if finland joins nato, the US will build bases in the country. if the US calls in NATO into the middle east, north africa, or subsaharan africa, all members will send troops. went money goes into NATO, how much is just administrative?
2
Inducing rebellion or protests, or causing some sort of incident, isn’t “attacking a nuclear power”. If such a case happens, Russia isn’t going to focus on nuking Europe nor America
2
Finland may train with NATO but isn’t in it, thus explains why there aren’t any bases in the country and why Finnish people weren’t drafted to Afghanistan, etc.
2
Doesn’t make sense for Russia to invade Finland
2
just don't have NATO at the russian border, simple as that
2
maybe, but russia has been making a bunch of products locally now. some product-manufacturing are new so the quality isn't that good, but over time, those products can be made better. russia will win the current war but must maneuver carefully afterwards to remain a great, regional power
2
even if russia went with your route, US and NATO will use Ukraine as a launching pad to conduct operations into russia. in that case, what next? in your route, russia has no room to move
2
NATO has been on the offensive since the collapse of the USSR in 1991

If a country acts out of line for “their own interests”, neighboring country has to respond if the action is harmful
1
Russia can't compete in giving the best desired life because the west is dominated by America, the country that has the strongest economic industry and tight economic stability. also, joining NATO isn't a free ride as a member
1
not really the heartland theory at play but it does give some perspective nonetheless

intercepting countries tried to take russia during the russian civil war and failed hard
