@TSEliot1978 he's not being charged for sleeping around with a pornstar should he be indicted. He'll be charged with something that is financially which they don't have solid evidence on to begin with. Everyone knows its political by nature. We need people who are going to stand up against political persecution against opposition figures, because if they aren't going to do it for opposition figures they probably aren't going to do it for the average either when push comes to shove. The average person doesn't care what a political figure does in their personal life so long as they do the job well. If we decide to start caring about what they do in their off-time then we're all the way back to pre 2016 where we got distracted from the real issues by that sort of thing.

@suzsmith5787 I'm going to be fair and objective and say that both Trump and DeSantis have backed such a thing, however Trump got the message when his base reacted badly and then backed off like a listening populist. But yeah I am getting a bit suspicious at this point.

If DeSantis screws up one more time, I'm going to take the red flags I am seeing around him which I am still giving him the benefit of the doubt on, and run away. One more screw-up and I won't even vote for him if he is the candidate.

@Matthewt756 I think Kari Lake could give him a terrifying run for his money at this point. She's basically a female version of trump, just younger. The neocons hate her as well and not one has backed her. She immediately called this thing out. It also helps that she comes from a state that is not necessarily safe red like Florida.

They both do it. Back-and-forth is fair in politics against potential competitors. It's an age-old story within both parties. I don't particularly care one way or the other. I get why he wouldn't want to be involved but he should have made a statement condemning it before it was 24 hours until zero hour of the potential indictment. His polls had fallen a decent amount by the time he spoke finally. While his response may have been appropriate enough, the timing most certainly was inappropriate and I think that takes people off more than what he said.

I don't know if he's that principled, but I do think he was strategically minded enough to know to call this out early. Quite a few people were.
5
I know. Yet another neocon making me really question him right now. Has always said that we need to go back to pre-2016 GOP playbook. I want these red flags to go away. DeSantis does not necessarily need to be involved, but my God, he shouldn't have taken this kind of stance ignoring what is a jackboot move and joking of it.
3
At this point I think it's a less than fifty-fifty chance DeSantis is his VP pick. It is more likely to be Rand Paul in my opinion and he's probably not even at the top of the list but at least is on the shortlist. I think it is likely to be Paul, Lake or Noem.

@pm5206 very few political figures don't do this kind of thing. It's actually pretty commonplace. I'm not voting for somebody's nighttime activities. You might as well have voted for Mike Pence if you think this way, but we know that to be flawed. There is no perfect moral person in politics, so let's stop voting like we're voting for who is a saint. That's pre-2016 BS and it got us nowhere for 30 years.
3
Until fairly recently their relationship was actually pretty chummy, but those neocon endorsements started rolling in and things got more distant. I'm pretty sure they're at least still civil in private.
2
@David-we3sb most supporters of one like the other. It's like 80% MAGA overlap to begin with. Hardcore support, however puts only one at an advantage in sheer size. I'd consider myself hardcore support, but I will call him out when he slips up. I'm not going to worship the ground he walks on- he's just a man. A good man with flaws, but a man.
2
That's kind of the unique shine to him. Most of his allies are regular people. He has a handful of close ones in power, but he regulations shuns most in power. In some ways this is a detriment, but on the other hand it is a greater strength than any political figure we've seen in a generation.
2
I think for it to be double jeopardy the court would have had to make a decision. United States justice department let the case go because of lack of evidence l because they knew it would fail in court in federal court.
1
He'd be disgusted with half of this party if that's the case. No person cares who he bangs so long as he does a good job. People don't usually vote for what you do in your private time. We aren't voting for clergy.
1
@palehorse7377 Dems, Reps... Who cares. It's all the uniparty. We're all stupid if we keep getting hung up on the letter behind their names. I really don't want him to be what I had them suspicious of at this point because that would mean a return to the old paradigm in the GOP, which means as an independent you have lost me.
1
@robertmatthews2009 with this guy they could put him in jail and so long as he has a heartbeat it's never truly "the end". If anything I think he WANTS this.... There's a reason for that.
1
@GeorgeSpencer985 Perhaps. We will see. Can't fail anymore litmus tests- not when this is combined with all the pre 2016 neocons that have backed him.
1
@Theranthrope Make it Lake/DeSantis 2028 and we've got a deal
1
@spaman7716 you never can know for sure about a person until they reach the pinnacle of possible power.
1
No person cares about what you do in your time off so long as your job is good. Are we going back to voting for BS reasons like pre 2016. Point blank that is a moralistic reason. Also I would point out that most high power couples and politics and business have open relationships in the first place, we don't have to agree with that but that just tends to be the thing. You like a political figure? Chances are they fool around and so does their wife.
1
Maybe not. Maybe so. There is talk about a campaign probably in June. We don't know yet. If he does run is going to make this situation hurt a lot more in the future for him than if he does not. Should he run this is going to be a big handicap on the primary trail and I don't think he realizes that.

@mmaboxingclips2407 hate speech laws was one. Constant endorsements buy neocon to hate the Maga movement is another. Also apparently Mitch McConnell directed a bunch of the Maga funds that Trump had raised for critical races that were lost in safe red States to DeSantis pack in the tune of around 200 million dollars during the midterms. I haven't totally made my mind up about DeSantis buddies on very thin ice with me at this point. One more slip-up and I'll never vote for him even if he's the candidate and I might even vote LP or write in Trump.
1
@Fossil_ they don't mind if you prune to save face. I'll be a little more at ease when the people Soros has funded drop their endorsements of him, otherwise I'm going to consider such a firing something they consider a necessary loss to save face.
1
BS. If you want the pre 2016 GOP you can vote for John Bolton or Jeb. At least they aren't going to try and cheat them. -Sincerely, an independent.
1
@bobroberts8500 I can defend myself thank you. I'd rather lose standing on my principles then when by violating them. My principles matter more to me than simple victory. If that means I lose doing the right thing so be it- I can live with that. I also don't think there's a guarantee of defeat though. Shove your black pill elsewhere. We are different and I'm glad of that.
1
That was the governors and then Biden. When covid came out the country was in panic and we didn't know what was going to happen. He along with the country was in a rock and a hard place situation, and it genuinely seemed like a good option at the time because it was the only one that was able to calm the situation. Knowing what we know now in hindsight it is not great, but I also don't think he was in the labs for their development. He has always been for vaccine choice at the very least. If you want tyranny you can go knock on someone else's door.
1
Perhaps. Unless he enters the primary, of course. At that point it's a handicap it's going to come up again and again.
1
@citacita7889 you can be optimistic about more than one person. "Optimistic" implies nothing.
1
@lisalavadores1566 to be fair the longer you are in politics the more likely you are to have baggage. He's already been in the House of Reps. At minimum he's been in federal politics since about 2012, so a decade of career. I really don't care who these guys bang in their off time. I'm not going to base my vote off of that because that is not what is going to affect my life when they are in power. It's a distraction. I also wouldn't trust the media to do much digging if they have proven they fear one more than the other. It is a flaw to trust the media does digging on everyone. They only do digging for agenda. They sure as hell didn't do much digging on McCain. Specifically big conservative MSM.
1
@evocati6523 Florida governors however have the ability to fast track legislation that state reps would otherwise sit on, and he's used that fast track power recently for other things.
1
They both have the same stance on vaccine freedom. Both also got vaxxed. Both don't care if you are or not. Back then nobody cared if it was fast tracked and at the time it did sound like a good idea to everyone on our side because it was finally a way out of panic. In hindsight perhaps it wasn't as good an idea, but in a rock and a hard situation, it was a tough choice that was made. Now if you want to blame someone for vaccine deaths I suggest we should talk to the Pfizer labs, because neither of these guys have you any idea about the scientific part of it.
1
Fair point. But I am a little discerned and I am now teetering on jumping off that fence. I'll give him one more shot. However I think Trump did get a tip-off to the possibility from one of his associates in NY. He just isn't sure whether or not as it is a guarantee that it will occur or only something that is a possibility being discussed.
1
True. There's also a big chance he hopes they try it.
