It is called living abroad. He is still a US citizen paying US taxes. I really don't see why people are so hung up on this. He married a Dutch citizen with deep family ties in the Netherlands. His guns are in Vermont at his house.

The federal income tax would be great to get rid and replace with a sales tax, but is impossible to do on a single step without causing massive market problems. Any replacement of the federal income tax would have to come in stages and would probably have to start with getting rid of income tax brackets and reforming it into a flat tax at first. Then you would have to taper it down over time.

@government_costumes-ui5lx Trump has never needed to be bailed out. He got a million-dollar loan from his father. He turned that million dollars into roughly ten billion in liquid assets and several tens of billions in solid assets. In smaller terms that is like being given $1 and turning it into 10,000. Failure? How about venture capitalist. And if you're going to criticize him for being more successful than you please spell "bail" correctly.

If you were to replace the current federal income tax with a sales-tax it would mean that no matter where you are on the country or your state's policy, you would be paying double digits on each of your purchases. If you live in a state with no sales tax you now pay 20 to 30% and there's nothing you're state can do about it. Getting rid of the income taxes a good idea but it has to be done in stages. Wiping it out in a single stroke would be catastrophic to the economy and to our wallets.

Originally before being amended the Constitution did not allow for an income tax to exist. We probably need to re-amend to put that back into place permanently. The problem with eliminating the income tax all at once however, and replacing it with the sales tax, is that the sales tax would have to start out at 20 or 30%. It will be better to do it in steps to where you first get rid of income brackets and have a flat tax. Then you would taper it down over the years.

Didn't your governor also win by about twenty points this last election? No one ever seems to mention that it wasn't just DeSantis.

True for a time. But he also knows you can't flip the switch from night today all at once without causing massive issues. He was also never a democrat in power. That being said being a republican was never a very great thing either. People need to stop focusing on the parties. I also don't think there is anything Democrat about his plan to lower taxes rather than just simply switch it out.

He's definitely not for the transitioning of children. I don't know where that came from. It's even part of one of the platform pieces that he put out. Same for Disney. He rips on them all the time. If we're going to offer up criticism we should at least be honest. His son said not to punish them, whereas Trump just doesn't want to really mess with the issue much for economic purposes, but he does excoriate them for being stupid. As soon as the company lost a lot more value however, he definitely has hardened down on them. Trump is a bit more careful. He eases into things. It's a balancing act to keep the independents and centrists who may vote, while also not rocking too much with conservatives. DeSantis' is strategy will only work with people who are already going to vote red anyways.

It will be better to get rid of the income tax, but you would have to do it in stages. Getting rid of it all at once would cause a big economic crisis when everything you buy has a 30% tax on it. And libertarians are against State intervention in the economy. Families are not economy. I also don't think he is one-hundred-percent libertarian I think he's more like eighty to ninety percent.

I really don't care about his heels or Trump's hair. They're just quirks.

@radagast7200 while I agree it should be more state level, if we remain a union we do need a single currency. I think the solution to dealing with a lot of our currency problems is just get rid of the Federal Reserve.

However the rich could afford that tax on the things they could buy. It would be a double-digit sales tax on everything. The middle-class would pay through the nose. There is no easy way to get rid of the federal income tax without tapering down the tax rate first and creating a flat income tax before that tapering begins. Otherwise the economy will be on life support if you just flipped the switch all at once.

Ramaswami isn't bad I will say that. I think he would make a good VP pick or even future candidate in an election cycle or two, but he does not have the stuffing for this time around. He probably won't even be on the ballot come election day. At least not as the lead on a ticket.

Very true. However to get rid of it in one step and replace it with a sales tax would cause prices to skyrocket for a long time. A flat tax would be better to start out with and then lower it by degrees until the income tax is outright abolished. The DeSantis idea is good until you go into the implementation. The Trump idea is the start of lowering by small degrees which could set up for someone to do something with abolition in the future. Should Trump get into office in 2025 we will be in a recession when he is sworn in, and probably not a shallow one. If Congress were to get rid of the income-tax immediately at that point in time not only would you have a large employment crisis and a poor market but you would be paying 20-30% sales tax on everything.
