  1. The shorter wavelength you go the more difficult it becomes to reflect light. For x-rays you have to have very shallow angle of incidence on optics (a few degrees only) so all the light path becomes very long and you can't fold it up to such a compact size as the current "beast".

  3. The same could be said of CEOs some of which go out on M&A buying sprees and vastly overpay to acquire other companies. Followed either by massive write-downs or even bankruptcy.

  6. They have great technical universities, TU Delft, Eindhoven, University of Amsterdam and research institutes like AMOLF and ARCNL (where ASML is also involved). Also their way of organizing research groups is somewhat different from many other countries: it's less top-down and researchers (including PhD students) have more autonomy
