@stevet331 You've missed out a few steps. People can claim asylum. The Home Office assesses those claims. Most of the people arriving in small boats are assessed as genuine refugees. So they are "legal".

The Tories are superb at blaming everyone else for their failures. Have they taken responsibility for a single issue facing the country? It's either Labour's fault, or the EU, or Russia, or the pandemic, or the courts, or the Anti growth Coalition, the Wokerati etc.

@stemclaren But the legislation you suggest would be illegal. So not as simple as you think.

@timg1246 How can you make such a sweeping statement? How do assume to know the circumstances of these people's lives? Do you work for the Home Office? Have you read through the assessments? Refugees are a world wide problem. There are many and varied push / pull factors. Many solutions have been attempted. The UK is a member of the Global community, despite voting to leave the EU. Leaving the ECHR would be either impossible or extremely difficult for a number of reasons, including the Good Friday Agreement. A don't forget, the ECHR also gives you rights, not just asylum seekers.

@stevet331 Is this 11 month old account another bot account?

@stemclaren Where did I write that the UK government has no control over the passports they issue? Do you understand the difference between asylum seekers and refugees?
1
@stemclaren Are you simple? People arriving in small boats have the right to seek asylum. The large majority of those are assessed as genuine refugees. They will be naturalised and can apply for passports. Those who have their applications rejected (currently less than 25%), do not have to be given citizenship. What don't you understand?

@stemclaren Why is your account only three weeks old? Are you in primary school?
1
@stemclaren Let's try to straighten something out here, because you have not been clear. When you refer to people “entering the UK illegally will ever be given a UK passport”, does this include people who are subsequently assessed as genuine refugees by the Home Office?

Rubbish. We take far few refugees than other countries. The biggest issues facing the world are catastrophic climate breakdown and corruption of the elites.
