  1. It’s not abandoning them at all, they pay the bills, sign the papers. It’s all consensual unless the elder isn’t in their right frame of mind and the son/daughter has the right to make decisions for them.

  7. Many reasons. The daughter might not be able to take care of her mother. Seniors require special care. And it’s stupid to leave an old woman alone their own house, there could be a medical emergency.

  10.  @Trinitylouissaint  You would have to be pretty rich to hire a nurse, my family tried that and we gave up after 6 months. It was too expensive and she still didn’t have enough care, plus her house was a little too dangerous for her :/

  12. That’s actually false. Not selfish at all. People have their own lives to live so they might not be able to take care of their parents. Also elders require special care at points, like bathing, medication schedules, ect. And some elders don’t like noise, they would rather be in a quite peaceful place where they can interact with other elders.
