William L. Shirer described Coolidge's presidency as "empty and smug", but if he hadn't gotten tired of it, he never would've moved to Germany, and thus we'd have never gotten my all-time favorite book, "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich".* With that said, I'll tip my hat to him for going against the idea that the USA is a "white man's nation", and I can forgive him for the Immigration Act of 1924 because (a) he didn't want to sign it, and (b) he knew he'd be overruled if he vetoed it. *It's dated, I know, but the sarcasm and witty diction make it a compelling read; and Grover Gardner was the perfect guy to narrate the audiobook.
