The Russian Winter certainly helped, but it wasn't a decisive factor. The Soviets just had better industry and less racist generals who knew what they were doing, and once Stalin understood that, he stepped back and let them do their jobs. The Germans had less men and materials, pompous generals who swallowed the "Master Race" propaganda, and a downright insane leader with a god complex who meddled in every single affair imaginable and made it no secret that he was going to kill everyone in the Soviet Union no matter what, thus giving his enemies no reason to surrender.* * Hitler's generals were just as arrogant about their chances of conquering "Russia" as he was, and their self-serving memoirs claimed that the Soviets only won through sheer force of numbers and better adaptation to cold weather.

Hissam Ullah At one point, he even dared his torturers to bring in his accuser, promising to confess to everything they told him to if they did. They couldn't, because the supposed accuser had been killed during the Civil War back in the '20s. He was eventually released without explanation and given an army to command, and boy, did he command it. I've been hunting for Rokossovsky's memoirs, but they're out of print, and the only copies you can find online are super-expensive.

I went ahead and bought a copy of the memoirs. It was extensive, but still the cheapest I've I could find; all the others were over a grand.

I'm currently reading Zhukov's memoirs. They're pretty good; he uses rather informal diction (words such as "pal", "chum", and "bosom-friend" are used to describe... well, friends, obviously), and so far, I haven't found myself wondering what he's talking about. In Chapter 1, he says that his father wasn't THAT abusive, though Konstantin certainly gave his son more beatings than what was considered "normal" for the time.

He certainly played a prominent role in those battles, as well as Kursk, but he wasn't the ONLY one: Ivan Konev, Konstantin Rokkosovsky, Nikolai Vatutin, and Vasili Chuikov did their fair share, as well.

@davemason9555 Did I say it came down to race? Don't try to shove words in my mouth, Dave. The Germans certainly thought it did, and reality kicked them in the gut. Over, and over, and over.
