  2. Yes, depression is a very real thing. And yes it CAN be a chemical imbalance in the brain. I suffered from clinical depression for a few years and it was the worst thing I have ever experienced. It is NOT the same as "being very sad". Depression is like being soulless. You feel nothing but a crippling NONSTOP, deep, hollow, emptiness. It is far beyond sadness. I was literally incapable of doing daily things. I couldn't even talk. However, after getting the right medication I completely bounced back to a normal person. Now, I do agree that a lot of "depression" is just self diagnosed or even over diagnosed. And I also believe that a lot of the depression people feel is situational rather than an actual mental illness (that was my case. My brain was actually sick).
