@554account That is how it should be but sometimes it reaches a point when it seems as if GB contribution is less than it was reading some of the posts. We all contributed to a stunning victory of a skillful and powerful enemy. Were must never forget that. Cheers to Diggers, Canucks Kiwis Indians and not forgetting the French who a bore largr part of the fighting right in their own backyard.

@jerryslater3447 and Britain did Cana da proud

Tom Justis. One other reason why the Germans underestimated the RAF strength is that German Squadrons had fewer aircraft in each squadron almost half to the RAF. Also we were out producing aircraft them as well.
5
Another factor in The Battle was that the number of aircraft in RAF squadrons Were double the size of German Squadrons leading to under estimation by the Germans.
4
@omicrontheta3894 It wasn’t Sir John Monash either. It was the Governor of Australia who reprieved the miscreants.
4
@andrewkawaoka6651 We were not low on Spitfires we were out producing Germany in a/c production and airfields are very difficult to put out if action for a long time.
3
Mr Dam, don’t be so bloody pompous. Just in case you didn’t know there were other soldiers in that war. The high command of the Australian CORPS would have used the death penalty if they had been allowed.
3
The majority of pilots were British accept it.
3
The British were also at Vimy
3
@frankoholik1760 OK General Frank, how would you have fought that war? There are scores like you who utter those words but none have put up an alternative method of how it should have been fought. Just in case you did not notice but `Haig and Co won the war and with casualties out of both major Allied combatants. Expand your reading.
3
It would have been the Royal Navy that would have stopped the Germans .
3
The nurses were not on the front line, they were many many miles to the rear, that is the reality.
3
Same old argument . Give it a break and have an original thought.
3
In WW1 the Irish were British and many thousands volunteered to fight.
3
@pigmanobvious Some Woke boy at the age of 84 and who saw the war and bombed several times. You yan
3
That is true but the US had little impact to the defeat of Germany.
3
@jugbywellington1134 well said Sir!
2
Another well thought out statement which the Aussies and Canadians would do well to heed. Well said said Sir!
2
How many squadrons did the Poles. They brilliant but don’t exaggerate.
2
@kerryburns6041 somebody did bomb my home in 1943 and I lost family.
2
Bomber Command also bombed large swathes of industry. Get real and don’t be so sentimental.
2
We did at the time nobody was with us till later,
2
Vimy Ridge was part of the Arras Offensive which was a failure. Planned by French General Robert Nivelle
2
@JB-yb4wn Vimy was a success yes but it was part of the Arras offensive which was s failure and, had a higher daily casualty rate than the Somme
2
Proud Brit here.
2
Poets were of no value and they made money out of their doggerel.
2
Well done Winston,We Shall Never Surrender!
2
@peace-now most of the pilots were English. Mate!
2
We in Britain have more reasons than any to be proud of our armed forces, but we DON’T KEEP SHOUTING ABOUT IT! Pipe down, we get your message.
2
Oh come my Polish friend how many Poles fought in the battle and elsewhere, but they fought with great skill and bravery.
2
@rexw3314 accepted, you didn’t say Johnson was BoB pilot. Sorry mate.
2
@frankoholik1760 . Now read Nemesis by Max Hastings. In that book he is scathing about the Australians after El Alamein both military and civilian.
2
Provide your source
2
@dulls8475 well said mate!
2
@mid30sclassics70 very well said if I may say so. You have nailed it, but the trouble is that the Aussies won’t take notice they are so swamped by thinking how great they are.
2
@Mr-Damage Breaker Morant is but a small tale in Oz history overblown just like Gallipoli
2
Weren’t the British soldiers brave as well.
2
@Mr-Damage I have read and studied WW1 for more than 50 years and listened to eminent historians lectures on all aspects including Australian military history. I have also read the childish and plain wrong statements re Oz on forums such as this. If that Ridiculous TV movie ANZACs is shown in schools the education minister should be sacked.
2
What a way to view the Gallipoli landings through a story of a boy and girl. Pathetic. That was nothing new as there were millions of men with girl friends who went to war. Bleeding heart history.
2
NO HE DID NOT!
2
@funstuff2006 and it wouldn’t mention the British either. Remember `Vimy Ridge was part of the Arras offensive.
2
A nice reminder. Canada provided a full bombing group in WW2- No 6 based in Yorkshire where I Have lived for more than sixty years and worked at a former RCAF base RAF Leeming for forty years. About 900 flying personnel died in active service during the war. We love em all.
2
Big questions have been asked about Bishop’s Battle reports written by him.
2
Quite right mate.
2
My commiserations to you and thank you to them both.
2
Honest Bob,you are being dishonest you should have said British.
2
@lemr88 Your military did not make huge gains but significant gains. Huge gains were made in WW1 by the vast improvement of the BEF which included all Empire troops and Americans by winning the war in 1918. Australia simply could not make huge gains in either war due to their numbers. You made spectacular gains but not huge gains in the context of the wars. Read about the Russian front where there really were huge gains made by both sides involving millions of men thousands of tanks and artillery not to mention casualties eventually numbering in their millions. Then the there is the invasion of Europe where there were millions more of the same. Please try to ease the chip of your shoulder and face facts that you were a small cog in a very big war. We all know the valuable part you played but please don’t overcook it.
2
You took the Somme with a couple divisions.dont make me laugh. Don't even the Aussies have claimed that. Visit any cemetery on the W Front and ALL have British soldiers buried there. The British Army was the largest on the front. You colonials do puff yourselves up which is a sign of inferiority.
2
Nonsense
2
...and you do not know your history.
