During the Second World War there was total rejection, officially and in the population, of the racial segregation practised as official policy by the American armed forces, when segregated regiments of both black and white soldiers were posted in Britain in preparation for D-Day. There are American films educating American soldiers on the different attitudes - especially regarding race, and the lack of Jim Crow laws - that they will find in Britain.
