The police van in Knowsley was probably set on fire by members of Antifa, who apparently had been called out by the Communist Party. The demonstration was peaceful otherwise.
Re trying to civilise Afghanistan - at least slightly. It was a failed State, and a major breeding ground for terrorism, perpetrated especially, but not exclusively, in Western countries. In occupying Afghanistan, NATO was trying to protect its member countries. It was a defensive act on NATO's part. At the same time, trying to give women and girls in Afghanistan some human rights contributed to this process. After twenty years and a billion dollars, some progress was discernible. It was slow, but it was starting from a very low baseline. No NATO soldier had been killed for nearly two years. What was lacking was destroying the Taliban factories in Pakistan, from which Taliban were constantly thrown across the border into Afghanistan. So, in order that Trump could boast about withdrawing American (it was actually *NATO*, Donald) troops from foreign lands, all that blood and treasure has been thrown away, and it is once again a failed State, breeding ground for terrorists, and Hell on Earth for women and girls.
