Comments by "crazypj" (@1crazypj) on "Who Approved This and Why Is It Still Being Made? Wet Belt aka Belt in Oil Engines" video.
One other thing, belt runs at a much more constant temperature with 'oil cooling and heating' ( obviously depending on how hot your summers get and how cold winters are) I am wondering if there is a specific oil that must be used to prevent belt deteriorating? Maybe some oils would extend life and others severely shorten it? (particularly in 'quick change' oil service centres or 'dubious' shops (or even main dealer if they don't have correct oil but use bulk tank - when I ran workshops often we used what I knew worked best even though it doesn't apply to wet belts being 40 years ago) The little Honda generator we bought in 2004 has a bright blue plastic cam belt, but, it's a fixed rpm, fan cooled industrial engine. I was still very surprised when I did first service though. I guess any American design (FORD in Detroit still holds the purse strings for all it's worldwide plants) is going to follow the Boeing business model, bonuses for the top people who bail as soon as things start to 'hit the fan'.

@joshmanis9860 I was going to mention that although I think Honda have actually only used them about 30 years? In 2004 we had to buy a generator after hurricanes knocked power out, the only one we could get was in Pennsylvania, sight unseen but Honda engine. Took a few days (we had no power 21 days, everyone around us did - in central Florida!!!!!!!!) Anyway, it's fixed RPM industrial engine but I know if I fueled it tomorrow it would start and run (I always run it dry since carb has to be cleaned otherwise) I was VERY skeptical when we got it (I had worked in Honda motorcycle dealers and on Honda industrial engines for many years and knew how much abuse they can take but 'rubber band' driving cam was totally unknown to me back then)
