I was trained, in learning how to tow armored vehicles, to cross the trailer chains because of the way that impacts pulling forces in turns. If you cross the chains, and they are the same length, then both chains will always be under tension when pulling, regardless of how you are turning. If you don't cross the chains, then the one on the 'outside' of the turn will have 100% of the tension while the other goes slack. - This is less of an issue for the safety chains in a normal trailer pulling, but if your chains aren't long enough then in a tight turn you may have unwanted tension on a taut chain. If they are crossed, they don't come under tension until and unless the hitch point fails.

No frost heaves! I have been trying to figure out, for months, what makes your road footage so weird to me. It is the lack of frost heaves, potholes, and sand (from winter ice and snow treatment) on the sides of the road that I see every day here in Massachusetts that I DON'T see down there that made things seem so... foreign.

We're here to watch Ray, not the building he happens to be working within.
