@tooltalk If you look up the 1898 Treaty of Paris that Spain signed with the U.S, the Spratly Islands is not Philippine territory. Philippine's national boundaries were drawn up in that treaty and it did not include the Spratly Islands.

@MarkYeung1 The Philippines became an American colony after losing the American-Phillippines War. As for Vietnam, China helped the Vietnamese fight for independence from France. During the Vietnam War, China supplied and provided the Việt Minh guerrilla forces with almost every kind of crucial and important supplies and material required, such as food, money, medics and medical aid and supplies, arms and weapons, ammunition and explosives and other types of military equipment. 2,000 military advisors from the PRC and the Soviet Union trained the Việt Minh guerrilla force with the aim of turning it into a full-fledged armed force to fight off their French colonial masters and gain national independence. On top of this, the PRC sent two People's Liberation Army (PLA) artillery battalions to help Vietnam fight for independence.

@DaniboyBR2 The Kuomintang lost the mainland to the CPC and fled to Taiwan island and set up base there, planning to retake all of mainland China someday, then how is that bullying? Both Taipei and Beijing agree to the One China principle that Taiwan is part of China, and even the U.S acknowledges this in the 1972 Shanghai Communique.

Surveys in Taiwan have shown that only a minority (5.6 percent) of people in Taiwan want independence, while the overwhelming majority (87 percent) want the status quo to continue.

South East Asia is has 680 million people which is 50 percent more than the EU and more than twice as many as the U.S, so it's a prime investment spot for future growth.

@rksleung Vietnam still think that Japan's Shinkansen high-speed rail is superior, but the fact is that China is home to the world's largest high-speed railway network, surpassing even Japan's high-speed rail in terms of track length. As for mainland Chinese kids in Vancouver, their lavish lives are limited by the fact that Canada considers them as outsiders or 2nd-class citizens in their lands. As for your last example, what's the name of the Chinese bank that parachute in mainlanders into a department and then fired all the existing employees and then hiring a HR consulting firm set up by his wife? Or else you could just be cooking up a story in order to smear Chinese banks.

@rksleung Many Indians (but not all) tend to retain the "colonial mentality" of worshipping their previous colonial masters, while harboring a disdain for any "non-white" culture (including their own). The China-India border was drawn by a British, Henry McMahon, without regard to previous historical boundaries between India and China, and yet till today, India still insist on the McMahon Line instead of returning to the historical border lines.

@bobsmith3983 Agreed. Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai had proposed the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence (和平共处五项原则) to resolve the China-India border issue. But Indian PM Nehru refused to talk, instead he pursued his aggressive "Forward Policy" of building military outposts at our disputed border. Some outposts even went beyond the McMahon Line and into actual Chinese territory itself.

@khangnguyenthaiduy9129 Sri Lanka's Hambantota port is leased to Chinese companies to develop for 99 years. Once the lease expires, the port would be returned back to Sri Lanka, so Sri Lanka stands to benefit in the long run.

@steveman888 The problem is by ASEAN refusing to recognize the current Myanmar military government, they are in fact aiding the western forces. You're correct that the before the military coup, the previous Myanmar government had foreign involvement by NGOs. Even Aung San Suu Kyi has received money from the National Endowment Democracy, this should already sound off alarm bells. So ASEAN is playing right into the western hands by supporting those foreign funded Myanmar opposition.

Then how is this similar to what Britain did to Hong Kong? What Britain did was colonisation, controlling every aspect of Hong Kong, including education, trade and politics, and it's done to an entire port city. Whereas Hambantota Port is merely leased to Chinese companies to develop.

When the Republic of China published the Eleven Dash Line in 1947, claiming Spratly islands, the Philippines did not object to it. Then how does the Philippines own the Spratly Islands.

@incognitoone Tibet became part of China since 800 years ago, when the Mongols conquered the Kingdom of Tibet as well as Song Dynasty China, and then incorporated both territories into Yuan Dynasty China. Centuries later, the Manchu conquerors did the same thing with Tibet during Qing Dynasty China. Although Tibet broke free of China in 1912, it was eventually reincorporated back into the mainland by 1952, so how is that an occupation of Tibet? Today, every country in the world recognizes the Tibet Autonomous Region as part of China.

@jross3680 a. Vietnam began construction of its airstrip on Spratly Island in 1976, making this the first runway in the Spratly island group. In 1978, the Philippines incorporated Thitu Island after airstrip construction had already begun. In 1983, Malaysia built an airstrip atop Swallow Reef. The Nationalist Chinese government (i.e Taiwan) constructed its airstrip on Itu Aba in 2006 and construction finished in 2008. Mainland China is actually a late-comer to building airstrips in the Spratly Island. China's first airstrip construction in Spratlys only began in late 2014 on Fiery Cross Reef. Whereas Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia and RoC all have long existing airstrips in the Spratly Islands. Yet you're only singling out China? b. The Paracel Islands lie within 200 NM of China's geographic baseline so they are considered part of China's EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) then what's wrong with China building bases within our own EEZ? c. Scarborough Shoal was not part of Philippine territory as per the 1898 treaty Spain signed with America. When the Republic of China claimed it under the 1947 Eleven Dash Line, the Philippines did not object to China's claim.

@incognitoone The Tibetans themselves signed the Seventeen Point Agreement for the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet (中央人民政府和西藏地方政府关于和平解放西藏办法的协议), thus affirming mainland sovereignty over Tibet. Even today, if you look up any Map of the People's Republic of China, the Tibet Autonomous Region is included part of China.

@bartonlee3594 The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) is not an official UN agency, it only shares the same office space in the Hague as the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Since the South China Sea arbitration was conducted by a non-official UN agency like the PCA (instead of the ICJ) then China reserves the right not to accept its ruling over issues such as sovereignty.

Agree with your statement. Just need to point out it's the CPC not the CCP. The name of the party in Chinese is Zhōngguó Gòngchǎndǎng (中国共产党) in which Zhōngguó (中国) means China i.e the Middle Kingdom. So it's the CPC not the CCP.

@steveman888 One of ASEAN's founding principles is of non-interference in its members internal affairs. ASEAN members shall refrain from cristicing the actions of the government of member states towards its own people. Myanmar is a member of ASEAN so the government of Myanmar deserves its seat at the table.

Yes, Hong Kong was previously a poor backwater port, before British colonization transformed it into a prosperous port city. But what some people in Hong Kong fail to realize, is that Hong Kong did not enjoy democracy while it was British colony, and it's only after the 1997 handover/return that the people of Hong Kong could finally vote in elections for their favorite leaders. It's a product of Hong Kong's education system under Britain that cultivated this sense of un-patriotism among some of its people. As for Sri Lanka, given that you know Hong Kong's colonial history, what makes you think that China would do the same to Sri Lanka, given what Britain did to China in Hong Kong?

China is NOT Britain (neither is Britain China) yet you're predicting what China will do base on British actions? When we are both vastly different cultures with different histories? Britain acquired the entire port city of Hong Kong, including its education system and its government, whereas Hambantota Port was leased to Chinese companies to develop for 99 years. Yet why do you keep on claiming that China controls the port? It just looks like you're obfuscating Chinese companies with China. Sri Lankan government clearly still have their own government, own education system and so on, so the comparison between Hong Kong and Sri Lanka is only superficial at best.

Throughout it's 5,000 years of history, China did not colonize overseas countries, unlike 18th century Britain, so why do you assume China will follow in Britain's footsteps? There are periods in history where China's naval power was arguably the most advanced in the world. For example, between 1405 and 1433, the Chinese Admiral Zheng He led seven voyages throughout the India Ocean, visiting Africa, India and the Middle East. Zheng He led an armada of over 300 vessels with some ships being 5-7 times larger than Columbus' Santa Maria flagship. Yet Zheng He's mission was about peaceful trade with other countries, not one of conquest like the Western colonial powers that came later. As a result, China had never founded any overseas colony, so why do you think China is about to start now?

Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos do not follow the United States politically. Even Singapore has been under the authoritarian single-party PAP rule for 57 years, much like how China's been under CPC rule for 73 years.

@MarkYeung1 Many of these South East Asian countries also have China as their largest (or second largest) trading partners, and Cyrus' video has shown that Chinese companies plan to expand trade with South East Asia. Another point is that China doesn't force those countries to pick a side, unlike the U.S
