I thought I'd create a simple "visual aid" in order to assist people learning about the history of the battle of Britain. There is much ongoing debate about the nationalities and proportions of RAF fighter pilots who took part in the battle, with a furtive aspect which attempts to portray the battle as a victory of mostly "Foreign pilots". Below is an accurate graphical representation of the proportion of pilot nationalities serving within RAF Fighter Command during the summer of 1940. Much like Germany, supplied with VAST quantities of raw materials from Sweden, Finland, Soviet Union and Romania,Italy & Spain and with 80% of continental Europe under its control. No country is self sufficient, so what's your point exactly?

They are Ex-Spanish air force Hispano Buchon HA1112's... Licence built Bf-109s ironically powered by RR Merlin engines. The "Heinkels" are also Ex-Spanish air force CASA 2.111's again powered by RR Merlin engines.

Oh so Germany stripping itself of canal and river barges to be converted to provide makeshift landing craft, then wiping out the creme of its air force and assembling 13 divisions on the north coast of France (because that was all they believed they could transport across the channel due to their wrecked navy) was all imaginary was it?

@rosesprog1722 I see you've failed to provide ANY sources to back up your own assertion, and yet expect me to provide some to back up mine. You can read any number of historical or contemporary sources which detail the military events of 1939-41. I've read many over the last few decades and have not come across a single one that makes the same assertion that you're making here in YT.

What makes you say that? It is the very epitome of a "last stand". Who else in the world was still opposing the nazis at that time? Not the USSR, nor the USA, there was no one. The British empire alone stood against nazism from June 1940 until July 1941.

The nazis captured a number of working British army gun ranging radar sets at Dunkirk and were NOT impressed by that technology (which was effectively the same as Britain's initial "chain home low" radar screen), BUT they didn't appreciate that the 350ft high radar antennae of the larger "chain home" system along Britain's coastline were just the visible part of a complete air defence system, that collected, filtered and disseminated the data at a close to "real time" rate to the defending RAF fighter squadrons.

@292Nigel Where was the dominant communist superpower takeover of western Europe? Western Europe became the "first line of defence" of the USA post WW2, but the fall of communism simply accelerated the spread of corporate globalism rooted originally in the US, but now centred around an axis of US & Swiss based organisations. You instead would have preferred to "team up with the Germans".... leading to death camps in the highlands of Scotland, Einsatzgruppen roaming the shires of Britain, and with all able bodied males sent to Germany to be enslaved to the German war machine? Sounds just peachy.

I feel slightly bad in pointing this out, but it must be done to enlighten the clueless "The Poles won the battle of Britain" revisionists. The Poles were not some breed of "superior" pilot, they'd simply accrued more combat experience since Sept 1939, and as a result of their previous battles with the luftwaffe only the most succesful Polish pilots had made it to Great Britain, the less successful ones had already perished. As soon as the rest of the RAF pilots had gained more experience there was NO difference in skill levels, as is witnessed by the kill tallies at the end of WW2. Luckily for the Poles they were provided with world class fighter aircraft with world beating radar and defensive control systems courtesy of the RAF and the British taxpayer, rather than flying to their deaths in the likes of the PZL P.7. Though we Brits are nevertheless still appreciative of their contribution to our victory against the overconfident Luftwaffe, it must still be remembered that while Poles represented 7% of Fighter Command pilots, 75% of Fighter command pilots in the battle were of British birth. Also please remember that contrary to uninformed, Brit-hating opinion, that ALL Polish service personnel who served in the British armed forces during WW2 (and their families) were given residency and citizenship rights in the UK, as witnessed by the 1947 Polish Resettlement Act.

Have we got to detail the trade networks of BOTH the combattants? If we're going to list Germany's trade network thats going to take us all night !!! Britain was the lone democracy in Europe opposing the Nazis, and was the sole country being attacked by both the Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine. I'm not aware of any long range He111s over Ottawa?

Hi Dan, there are still some remnants of Chain Home left in the UK. Probably the best preserved are at Dunkirk in Kent UK (NOT on the French coast) which has both receiving masts still extant, you can still see them on google street view, also some of the ancilliary buildings still exist, but will probably never be restored, as in general you are absolutely correct, the spineless, self hating puppets that run the UK government on behalf of globalist organisations nowadays DETEST anything that highlights the achievements of the British through the last 400 years. They'll probably pull down the remaining CH masts in the next few years and put an "illegal immigrant legal advice drop in centre" in their place.

We thank the 7 individual US pilots who flew during the battle of Britain, but as for the USA as a nation, it was business as usual, selling supplies to whoever came to collect them at inflated prices. They sold us their "Garden hose and water" as we in Britain fought the firestorm of nazism in Europe alone.

Persia (Modern day Iraq / Iran) and the US were her main sources of oil. Whereas the nazis were supplied mainly by Romanian oil wells at Ploesti, topped up by the hugely inefficient use of synthetic oil production (effectively boiling huge amounts of coal under immense pressure to produce relatively small amounts of refined fuels). It must also be remembered that the US Standard Oil company provided prewar Germany with millions of dollars worth of oil supplies and technology to fuel the belligerent nazis.

Could you please reel off the list of countries allied to Britain? Britain gave refuge to small numbers of refugees service personnel from the conquered European countries, but was COMPLETELY ALONE as the only democracy in Europe still opposing the nazis.

No for two reasons. 1. The Germans commited the first active war crime by waging aggressive war from sept 1st 1939 onwards. 2. The Red Cross marked aircraft whilst rescuing downed airmen were also reporting on British shipping movements through the English channel / North sea in complete contravention of the International Committee of the Red Cross rules regarding the use of the red cross symbol.

Josef František was the highest scoring foreign pilot with 17 kills. The overall highest scoring RAF fighter pilot during the battle of Britain was Eric Lock with 21 kills. 303 Squadron like ALL fighter units in active combat "overclaimed" its kills. Post WW2 when luftwaffe losses were collated with RAF claims, ALL squadron kill tallies were reduced to a "credited" tally, and 303 Squadron's actual credited tally was 58.5 kills, which pipped 603 Squadron's tally by one. No one is denying the valour & achievements of Polish pilots with their undoubted experience, expertise and skill, but overstating their performance serves to diminish the actions of other nations.
