And just to confuse matters further a "tanner" or silver sixpence was actually worth FIVEpence from decimalisation in 1971 !!!

@sapper82 Of course you're right.... brainfart senior moment there.

There wouldn't be as much profit to be made for the corporate friends of the ruling classes, so that sage idea would be a complete non-starter.

After 1971. Before that they were worth 12 old pennies.

My family lived in Rosalind St off Stanley Rd Bootle before WW2. They moved to Anfield in 1938 which was lucky as their half of Rosalind St was wiped off the map in May 1941, and when I look at a 1952 map of Bootle it clearly showed the layout of the prefab houses that were built on the bombed part of the road after WW2. If you were to go there today there is only "Rosalind Way" today it is the only street of that section of "victorian grid iron" streets off Stanley Rd that is different as it's only half as long as the rest and full of more recent housing.

Bang on.

Compare the "prefabs" to later building construction. I remember PLENTY of brick built council housing stock that was built in the 1960s and was torn down in the 1980s & 90s because they were so bloody awful.
