Comments by "Not Today" (@nottoday3817) on "Manstein is LYING! Breakout at Stalingrad Part 2" video.
Well, the thing is, by the time Manstein gave that order saying 'you have the option to break out', it was already too late. Soviets had reinforced the encirclement and Paulus had no way of taking the initiative. Not that he did not want to, but his men did not have the physical strenght and cohesion to execute it. The soviets were all over the city, preventing huge movements and any concentration of troops would have been leveled to the ground by a huge artillery barrage. Yes, I know that sounds a bit exagerated, but I think I get to the point.

Well, it is not common sense. If he ordered a retreat without permission from superiors he would have been replaced in command and the operation would not have continued anyways.

Well, apart from the huge propaganda purpose of capturing 'The city of Stalin', now that the capital was out of reach, the Stalingrad front was meant to protect the Caucasus front which was perhaps the most important on the whole Eastern front, as Germany really needed the oil. So, ordering an army to stay in order to reinforce your lines is not a wrong opinion

nah. The soviets were well aware of the crimes nazys commited in the captured land(people digging their own graves, mass executions etc.). They would have not let them live. If not for anything, just because they had no way to feed them.

Well, Rommel also played a huge part of that campaign
