  1. Hostages have always been talked about with more weight than civilians. I don't think it's malicious. It's just hard for the human mind to wrap itself around large numbers, so hostages are easier to focus on. Plus, it is the main civilian casualty component on the Israel side of the equation, so it's going to get talked about. This kinda talk is not at all specific to this conflict.
