  1. Might only have missed nineteen times. In 1939 the British converted a Garand we had for trials to full auto. They found that the first shot in a burst was reasonably accurate. It was the rest that were scattered over the backstop (mostly towards the ceiling).

  2. In 1939 the British Army modified a M1 Garand, one of the early gas trap ones, to full automatic. It proved to be completely uncontrollable (as they had expected). The rifle is now in the Royal Armouries collection, converted back to semi-automatic configuration.
