  1. ​ @gfarrell80  Not all mountain troops are infantry. There are engineers, artillery, signals, etc. If you have to carry the kit do to your main job, and your rations, cloths, tent etc. all on foot you want your weapon to be light and handy.

  2. Given that production of the G33/40 also ended in 1942; it's likely that development of the G40K was not abandoned per se. Rather, the Wehrmacht just stopped procurement of all bolt-action carbines.

  3. Kar is short for Karbiner (carbine). But the Kar 98A and Kar 98k were both short rifles. With longer barrels than actual Kar 98 carbines. While the Kar 98B was a full length G98 but with bent bolt handle and Kar 98 sights! And people say British nomenclature is misleading.
