  1. The "problem" is refining capacity. But that is not a problem since the world is currently in mild economic recession. When the economy is booming refinery capacity becomes the bottleneck, not the crude pumping capacity. But now is not those times, as the central banks of the west artificially keep the interest rate high (specifically to hurt Russia in several ways).

  2. But the problem with that narrative is that the only willing "member" of the Soviet "Union" was Russia. Everyone else had their political elite murdered and any rioters sent to the gulags. I was under the same impression as you up until I was tasked with training Estonians in the mid to late 90s. The stories they told about the societal difference between being an ethnic Estonian and an ethnic Russian were sickening. Every other country had to work their asses of and send most of what they made to Russia. Every military rank above NCO was mysteriously always occupied by ethnic Russians. Russia mobilized heavily from their "slave states" and send them to die with complete disregard. They didn't win. They just died and died and died until the allies had bombed the ever living crap out of the German production capacity. The Poles said that the Red Army, that was supposed to come liberate them, raped, murdered and plundered worse than the Nazis.
