  1. When the people start moving towards what might be called "fringe" parties, they are in truth, sending a message to the established ones saying... "We are not satisfied!" A wise person might refer to these warnings as "the canary in the coal mine." Unfortunately, established parties tend not towards shifting and reforming their policies but instead towards turning to the loudest and most objectionable elements of the fringe parties, projecting that onto its entire following. then attacking it with vigor while doubling down on the stuff that caused the problems in the first place. This just serves to enrage the people even further and leads to an ever increasing cycle of escalation since when people are not listened to, they will speak even louder and eventually turn to those who are willing to speak loudest of all and are unhesitant to back up their words with action. And in nearly all of these instances, these new "heroes of the people" are some pretty unsavory characters indeed. None of this is necessary. None of it needs to happen. Ordinary people, by their nature, don't gravitate towards the fringes. They are pushed there by leaders who won't listen. There is a solution - Listen and act; NOW, not later. Remember why you ran. Remember what you promised. Look after the reasonable and you'll never have to worry about the radical.

  2. It's NOT up to the voters to "learn!!" The politicians are there to serve the people, NOT the other way around! And when people cast their votes, they select one of the options that are available to them, they don't get to design one out of thin air based on their own best interests. This attitude of yours that maintains that old line parties are the best choice possible, that THEY know what's best for everyone else and that the unwashed rabble are simply too stupid to realize it and that they OWE their support to someone is EXACTLY the core of the problem! More than any other single issue, it is THAT smug, self righteous, condescending and dismissive attitude which enrages people the most and it is YOU they are protesting. @luzie3317

  3. You think that doesn't happen? Lots of people do exactly that. Including me for nearly 11 years. And their voices get drowned out, they get pushed to the fringes, the party establishment and leadership ignores them and eventually they quit in frustration. This is NOT just about election day, my friend. You think there's democracy inside legislatures? What world are you living in? Do members get to vote the way their constituents want or even their conscience? Or are the votes whipped? You think the masses are actually in control of anything or is it the party elites who are? It's the same thing within parties. Ordinary members are there to pay their dues, do the grunt work, clap on command and keep their mouths shut. What you and several others here on this thread are engaging in is a form of victim blaming. "What, you got poisoned by the medicine? Huh; guess you should've done some research, shouldn't you?" And no doubt that today, everyone has tons of spare time to devote to party activities. No piddling concerns like trying to keep a roof overhead or food on the table, is there? You sound exactly like that segment of society who delights at looking down their noses at others, is comfortable with the status quo and cares nothing for anyone who isn't and it is that which enrages people more than anything. @martijn8554

  4. Electoral reform.... which needs to be supported, agreed to and implemented by the very people who rely on, benefit from, and were put there to begin with, by the status quo. Yeah; and while we're at it, why don't we ask for free sunshine to go along with it? It's not impossible, though. I suppose we might have an outside shot at both sometime in the next 4 to 5 hundred years. So I ask again; what world do you live in? When was the last time you actually got out and mingled with anyone who doesn't live in your bubble or had had a meaningful relationship with reality? @martijn8554
