@mojopopo It might be easy to do but not for people like this and even so, due diligence will catch it 99% of the time. True enough, there's a lot more work involved in being a landlord; or at least one who is not looking to get scammed, but that's just the way it is. You do what needs to be done or you find yourself in a mess like this.

Background checks, references, ID checks, leases, damage deposits, usual stuff....... Just sayin'. Take the time, do the work and exercise the due diligence or this is the result. It's obvious the "authorities" aren't going to do dick to help you so you have to protect yourself.

@TentaclePentacle A private citizen does it the same way a corporation does it. And the costs are the cost of doing business which are all tax deductible. You think he's better off in this case for not having done so?
