@MrMEST This is why I say that there will not be a "war"; in other words, a protracted military engagement with both sides mobilizing their full capacities. There could however, be isolated skirmishes and even then, I can't see Greece prevailing. But if the two countries ever DID get it on for real, it'd be a Turkish rout! Many of those 6000 Greek islands wouldn't be Greek for long. Turkey is in a different place politically and diplomatically today than it was just a few years ago. They have an ultra nationalist strongman for a leader, they've pretty much given up on ever getting into the EU or any of the other exclusive, first world "clubs" so I'm not sure they care very much anymore about what any outsider thinks. They've more or less decided to go their own way and the rest of the world; NATO included, can like it or lump it.

Get śmokeđ Right now, "the west", if that's how you're referring to NATO, is too paralyzed with internal and external political matters and too weak and indecisive to do much of anything. Turkey knows this. It's why they announced their intention to neutralize the Kurdish threat in northern Syria and more or less told Trump to get the hell out of the way or else. And don't kid yourself; NATO is far more interested in keeping Turkey happy, or at least cooperative, than they are Greece. Greece is a pathetic little shell of a country with no money and no options. Greece has no bargaining chips whatsoever and has nothing with which to threaten anyone while Turkey holds one of the most strategic waterways in the world. NATO knows this. Turkey could tell NATO and the west to get stuffed tomorrow and thrust itself into the welcoming arms of Putin and Russia and there ain't a damned thing NATO could do about it.

There won't be a war, don't worry, but if there were, this is one case where there most definitely would be a clear winner; at least in the military sense. It wouldn't even be close and it'd be over within hours. I've worked extensively with the militaries of both countries and the Turks, let me tell you, are nobody's pushover. You may not like them or how they conduct their affairs but don't kid yourself; if you're going to draw weapons against the Turkish military, you'd best have your ducks in a row before you do. The Greeks on the other hand, couldn't lick a stamp!
