As a foreigner if I went to Japan (I did already travel there) I would EXPECT to be treated with DISCRIMINATION because I am clearly a foreigner who probably DOES NOT KNOW THE CORRECT WAY TO DO THINGS !!! It's makes perfect sense. And when I did travel to Japan the incredible customer service for the public transport for banking and for retail was amazingly polite and helpful to me who was totally useless and lost. The Japanese discriminated POSITIVELY to me because I was very helpless in all these new situations. My key thing I did in behaviour was to be quiet and respectful and mannered and try to work out how to show appreciation in a modest way and move along and not cause too much trouble and follow the instructions or indication of people who know better than me what is going on. In other nations I've seen tourists or foreigners who act loud and oblivious and generally act as if ONLY THEY EXIST and it devalues the civic space for other tourists. I think it's more likely the same in Japan where it's the fault of the GUESTS not the HOSTS as the Japanese are painstaking in public spaces to be orderly, polite and not cause trouble or else be harmonious and helpful if serving. The second lady had that sensitive aura about her, where it would not surprise me if she made Japanese people feel comfortable in her presence? She is a good example.
