It's good to hear how the hardwork of studying Japanese eventually paid off and made the first young lady feel so much gratitude for that outcome of being able to speak and read Japanese as a consequence. I wonder if it's simply just colour combinations being favourable or less so or, if it's also how much someone who is half comes across as Japanese in demeanour, mannerism, energy and the like and how that then influences general reactions too? As for the second lady, she comes across as Japanese totally, except looking a little different; in other respects she seems so Japanese. I can appreciate the hope of finding a new life in the New World. But she is young and travel broadens horizons. However when she is older and wanting her children, maybe she will see Japan in another way as an environment to raise children? Yes it is good to travel but to settle is a different question as you rightly suggest.

@David Ugh, it's still social decay and vagrancy whatever the reason for being homeless. I think you are quibbling. Everyone who goes to Cali says how shocked they are by the homeless/urban deprivation eg LA?

Agree, just be yourself and there's no apology to be made for that while being polite and respectful to others. She even speaks Japanese very well. I taught some young Somalis who were energetic but ultimately respectful to adults and sincere in wanting to learn. Those deeper values is what counts.

@Mwoods2272 Yes it could be said about Japan as well. If you have a family it is quite a good place to raise children however. It may depend a lot on your work/business as well.
