  1. That was the deepest, and most interesting analysis I have heard, since I did my Pre-Phd in political science/ political philosophy. It's always enlightening, and engaging to listen to an àctual intellectual. The bit about Putin's 'mystical' thinking, reminds me also of the weird stuff the Nazi's were engaged in. Bizarre bits of nordic folklore that entered serious discussions in Nazi-Germany. Hitler's adoration of legends, and his attempts to make those 'real' for Germany.. That mysticism became more and more open the crazier Hitler got. I wonder.. Is it something that happens to àll elderly autocrats? They lose their marbles and start to live in some shadow-world of their own making?

  4. The flag-and pledge thing for kids, even at a very young age, has, indeed, always scared me a bit as a European, looking at the USA. Bad experiences left their marks, even 77 years later. We got many war-graves close-by to remind us what crazy nationalism can unleash.

  5. Please. Russia is MOST certainly NOT "Communist" "Communist Russia" imploded in the 90's. Currently It's a complete kleptocracy. an Institútionalised kleptocracy. Or a nepotist oligarchy. (The actual dream of the GOP) What iS it with many Americans that they still see commies under their beds.
