They're pretty good at dusting soldiers hiding in buildings too. Taliban fighters found that out pretty quick. Uranium-core slugs make quite the mess of masonry as it turned out. Not that it made any difference in the end.. : "The graveyard of Empires" survived for a bit longer. Bit hard to "liberate" people that actually don't want to be liberated...

Hmm.. that actually makes a lot of sense.

Personally I believe the A10 will only be used to 'mop-up' remaining armour AFTER they get air dominance. The A10 was used extensively in Iraq, but only after the US forces had air superiority AND had decimated the Iraqi radar systems and the connected AA systems.

It can lose half a wing and still fly home.. Think about that.. AA missiles shot holes in its wings in the Iraq war.. and still it was capable of reaching its home base. (And Iraq had oodles of russian AA toys... ) It is a flying tank, slow, cumbersome, but very hard to take-down. Their quality lies in the fact that it can take a lot of damage because it has to fly very low to be effective.. and effective those 30mm uranium-core slugs are. It was specifically designed to take down USSR armour. With Russia now getting T-61's from storage, it will do exactly what it was designed for.

@Caldera01 You REALLY use a bloody computer-game to ascertain the capabilities of an ACTUAL Aircraft????? Dude.. get real. Have you even seen the actual military from the inside?

*reads comments.. Wow.. SO many kiddies and arm-chair generals that have "played a game with an A10" spouting their ill-informed rubbish. Let's first see if Ukraine actually gets A10 Warthogs ( that, in reality, were not too bad at decimating Iraqi T-series tanks !) And THEN see if they're actually as obsolete as these armchair-pilots seem to be convinced they are. "Predictions are hard, especially about the future" (Yogi Berra)

As I understand it, that is already in motion. F16's for MIGs, And Abrams M1's for T-72's and t-90s ( The Polish variation of those)

A10 will be deployed only AFTER The SAM systems and their radars are largely neutralised. First Anti AA and anti radar missions and THEN attack ground-based armour. That's how it works. IF Ukraine even actually gets them. A pilot trying an advanced sim, does not a squadron of A10's make.. so to say.
