Hahaha.. This reminds me of an anecdote a Golani once told me: In the war with Syria, a patrol was suddenly confronted with about 10 rather modern T-series tanks. Unnerving. But when observing them, the Golani noticed that about every 4 shots, and the same amount of minutes, the hatches opened, and the Syrians clambered out. Easy pickings.. Still a bit baffled the Golani continued watching and picking off the Syrians when they tried to climb out. At some point the firing from the tanks stopped. Some white flags came from hatches.
Carefully the Golani approached the tanks. No trap. The Syrians surrendered. They also looked like they were badly overheating. They were sweating profusely, and not from fear. Lotsa water handed-out to the Syrian soldiers, and the Golani started to inspect the tanks. When they finally looked inside, they almost got cooked by the heat coming from the interior.
What was the problem?? These tanks were hastily exported by Russia, and were winterized T-series with industrial class heaters... that the Syrians hadn't been able to shut off, because they had only trained on them very VERY short, and NONE of them could read the labels, or even the Russian manuals that were neatly kept in the tanks.
To make the story short: A couple of Golani were of Russian descent.. they quickly read the manuals, shut the heaters off, got the airco on, and proceeded to use their little 'gift' to pound the enemy tanks that were advancing, from an "unexpected side" afa the Syrians were concerned. One of those tanks is still on display at that large tank-museum somewhere in the vicinity of Tel Aviv..
