They died because they're a logistical headache and not super easy to recycle either. I do think that plastic is going away, unless there's a solution to the recycling and trash issue. Aluminum with a tiny bit of plastic lining is the superior option for most things. Aluminum lasts forever, can be recycled as many times as you like with very little material lost and once it's been dug up and initially processed it takes relatively little energy to melt it down to make some more cans.

@bluephreakr Mostly due to issues with contamination and having to get the bottle back to the same manufacturer as they tend to be custom. Plus, they degrade over time in terms of microplastics and hormones leeching into the fluid.

If you're going to use glass, that's how to do it. Otherwise, just use aluminum with a plastic liner. It's virtually 100% recyclable and any impurities mostly burn away with very little material lost in the process.

@mr.funnyman9765 No, many areas moved to recycling programs that made the deposit programs a bit of a problem. If you've got free curbside pickup of recyclables accepting a deposit for them means paying for collection twice and disincentivizes the use of the provided bin while also increasing emissions a slight bit as now you've got the bottles being driven back to the store on top of the truck that comes by to pick them up both from the store and from the house.
