@derekchauvin8426 Not necessarily, the Russians have already stated that they don't consider these volunteers to have rights under the Geneva Convention, so, surrender may well be only slightly better than trying to fight. Just look at what the US did to those prisoners in GITMO. I"d caution against taking any of this too seriously when you've got such substantial propaganda efforts on both sides. This may well be true, but it could also be a matter of Russian propaganda as well. But, it wouldn't surprise me if foreign troops were being sent on high risk missions with very little support.

@ennesshay5040 With the expansions of NATO into Eastern Europe and the previous annexation of Crimea by Russia, we really shouldn't be surprised by the fact that they went through with it. I'm not sure what the correct move would have been, but anybody that didn't think the Russians would invade were foolish.

@malvane8061 When I was a kid, I thought I'd be one of the first to sign up if the country was ever attacked. But, when it was attacked, it was quite clear that getting killed in that campaign would have been completely meaningless. Joining up would have been only marginally better than being one of the Nazi soldiers. I saw the propaganda and the lies that were being used to justify the invasion, and that was not my war for not my President. The crimes against humanity that were subsequently revealed just underscored the point. Abu Ghraib, GITMO, not to mention the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis due to the failure of the military to even bother trying to protect the local population or have a plan in place to do so. Only the naive think that the military is some sort of a good thing, the rest of us know that they're neutral at best, and blood thirsty cowards at worst.
